![]() ![]() There's no rule saying Pokémon can't do that too.Įuropeans have a stereotype of not taking baths or brushing their teeth. Like, most fantasy games draw inspirations from a lot of different places to create settings that have a unique identity from anything real, such as Hyrule. Personally I think it might be cool to have a Pokémon region that isn't directly based on any real-world location. I think they were less trying to say "America" with these references as "far from Japan". To create this feeling, they throw in a lot of different non-Japanese influences to separate out from the Japan-based gens: Snivy being based on French royalty, the medieval knight theming of Team Plasma, Stoutland being a Scottish terrier. I think it's more intended to feel like a soft reboot that's a bit alien from the previous games. France, Hawai'i, and the UK are all common tourist destinations (especially for American tourists), so those games were all marketed as almost like "a Pokémon-flavored holiday." But Gen 5 doesn't feel to me like it's trying to be a "New York vacation" or to wave its New York inspiration in your face in quite the same way. The real-world location inspiration became a huge selling point from Gen 6 and onward. It’s a kids game, I meant taking in the more nice stereotypes like they did in Alola and Kalos A stereotype of French people is that they are unsanitary and unhealthy, I didn’t see that in Kalos. ![]() When I meant using stereotypes I didn’t mean everyone’s fat or guns. Just as a general response to a lot of comments haha American healthcare bad haha yes your very funny What do y’all think?Įdit: FYI too many comments probably can’t respond to them Though I do find it kinda funny that the one story that presented Pokémon as a flawed world with a lot of issues is also the America game. The whole floating castle and king and everything about Team Plasma just does not suit Unova imo. Like, I feel like the story of this game would’ve fit better in like England. America only looks like stereotypical America, but then is filled with stuff that just doesn’t feel American. But like with Kalos I feel like it is very much stereotypical France. Like yeah there’s a New York and a cowboy gym leader. The original B&W’s music didn’t feel American (though B&W2 fixed this). They have a king, there’s castles, there’s a final confrontation with dragons. Like, the main bad guys act and look like some medieval order. Maybe this is just me but idk it’s been bothering me.
